Frequently asked questions.
Planning a home renovation comes with questions—and that’s exactly what we’re here to solve. Below, we’ve answered some of the most common things homeowners ask before reaching out. If you’re still unsure about something, we’re happy to talk it through.
Understanding Our Role
Why hire a renovation consultant instead of just relying on an architect or contractor?
Architects focus on design. Contractors focus on execution. At Jardin Homes, we advocate for your interests across both—bringing clarity, accountability, and alignment between the team, scope, and budget. Unlike builders or designers, we’re not selling construction or finishes—we're guiding the process.
I’m already hiring a contractor—why do I need your services too?
Contractors are essential for building, but they typically step in once plans are done. Jardin works earlier—and alongside your contractor—to keep your renovation aligned from the start. We help clarify decisions, flag gaps before they become problems, and keep the project moving. Homeowners often tell us things progressed faster and felt more under control with us involved.
Are you a construction manager?
Not exactly. Think of Jardin like an owner’s rep—common in commercial development—representing you throughout the project. We don’t replace your team; we make it work better, with less stress and fewer surprises.
MEP, HVAC & Technical Guidance
What is MEP and why does it matter in a home renovation?
MEP stands for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing—systems that affect comfort, cost, and functionality. In residential projects, these are often overlooked until it is too late. We help align MEP decisions early to avoid costly rework.
Who handles HVAC design?
In most home renovations, HVAC drawings aren’t provided. While your architect may include basic plumbing and fixture layouts, HVAC is typically left up to subcontractors to design as they bid. That means you're relying on each contractor’s interpretation—with no common basis. At Jardin, we help establish a clear design intent early on so bids are more consistent, and the system better serves your home's layout and lifestyle.
Will you oversee technical coordination during construction?
We visit the site during key moments to monitor progress, address construction questions, and guide coordination—especially around HVAC and MEP systems. While we don’t oversee architectural or structural details, our technical background helps bridge gaps and direct questions to the right team member when needed.
Scope, Pricing & Involvement
Do you offer full-project support or à la carte help?
Both. Some homeowners bring us in just for planning, others for design coordination or construction oversight. We tailor our involvement to your goals and budget.
How is pricing structured?
We offer flat-fee packages and hourly consulting, depending on scope. Every project starts with a conversation, then we outline a clear, tailored proposal—no surprises.
Do you coordinate permits?
We don’t file permits ourselves, but we help streamline the process by working closely with your architect and contractor to ensure timelines, drawings, and requirements are aligned for smooth submission and approval.
